The sales pitch was quite strong and ended up overselling the product; the 'poetry' ends up being rants, rap unaccompanied by a beat, and, these being teenagers, talking about themselves. Some of the pieces are moving, but they are better understood as dramatic monologues than poetry.
Similar to the documentary Spellbound, where students are preparing for the National Spelling Bee, Louder Than a Bomb offers a look at amazing kids writing and performing amazing poetry.
One of the BEST films I have seen in a long time. I laughed, I cried, I was moved beyond belief. I was impressed by the talent; it also gave me hope for our next generation who actually use REAL words to express their feelings NOT twitter!
Leave it up to Oprah Winfrey, and your potentially good documentary will be sleep inducing, just like this one is period.I LOVE poetry, yet this film feels more like amateur hour overall.Oprah LOVES it when black people LOSE,or fall from grace, and this film is explicitly clear about that FACT period. She HATES black people in real life, and makes sure she keeps reminding me of this no matter what.
I love this film! Some of the poems had me crying... There are some very powerful moments in this movie.
all inner city high school kids should c this
