Just watched this again. Hasn't really stood the test of time, but it's fun to see where Bond, James Bond, got his start in the movies.

We are all familiar with the big-budget Bond blockbusters as of recent. But you would do well to start with where it all began: "Dr. No.". The formula begins here: Suspense, secuction, and secrets.

This is where it all begins. Quite low-budget and modest compared to later entries. And no real theme song either.

Sean Connery was just 32 years old and would never have this build again. His speech was crisp and did not have the slur of age. Urusula Andress is beautiful here. The gadgetry is here but compared to today's tech-crazy world it is seemingly downplayed. I can tell you that when it came out we loved this film.

Seen now, this first entry in the long-running series feels quaint and little. While many of the familiar elements are there (girls, guns, exotic locations), it's maybe the most modest entry, with a forgettable villain (more like Dr. Who?) and no theme song. Still, this is where it begins and Connery is great, as is Ursula Andress' bikini. Followed by the superior "From Russia With Love."

An obsolete classic but the series definitely improved as it went along (with a few big misses along the way)
