"Maguire's work is melodic, symphonic, and beautiful; it is dejected and biting and brave. How great that people flock to these magical novels."
--Los Angeles Times Book Review

Bestselling author Gregory Maguire's remarkable series, The Wicked Years, comes full circle with this, his fourth and final excursion across a darker, richer, more complex landscape of "the magical land of Oz." Out of Oz brilliantly reimagines L. Frank Baum's world over the rainbow as wracked with social unrest--placing Glinda the good witch under house arrest and having the cowardly Lion on the lam from the law as the Emerald City prepares to make war on Munchkinland. Even Dorothy makes a triumphant return in Maguire's magnificent Oz finale--tying up every loose green end of the series he began with his classic Wicked, the basis for the smash hit Broadway musical.

Another terrific riff on the Wizard of Oz, which is seeming very pale indeed after Gregory Maguire's handling of the characters. Oz a very dark complicated place...

This book wrapped up the Wicked Years series wonderfully. Though I personally prefer Wicked more than its following books, this was still enjoyable.

A perfect end to finalize everything that had happened in the series. I recommend that you read the previous book to really experience the style and feel of each book. This book has become one of my favorites because it surprised me with its length and well developed story line. I believe it was worth reading and does a great job of flowing through different topics and times. I believe the book picks up with the introduction of Tip, midway through, and from that point I could not put this book down. This book accomplishes what every great series should make its readers do - Feel.

Maguire's final book in the fantastic Wicked Years series. While it isn't strictly required to read the books in order, I recommend that you do. The Oz in this universe isn't the magical place of Judy Garland. Political intrigue, racism, war and palace coupes figure into the narrative. Basically, this is a very adult Oz. This novel deals with Rain, the grandaughter of the Wicked Witch of the West, and through her various bloodlines heir to many thrones in Oz, which of course makes her a threat to the people sitting on those thrones now. Very enjoyable series, and the ending leaves a little opening should Maguire opt to tell more stories in this Oz.
