Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found and her beloved uncle is convinced she was murdered and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family. He employs disgraced investigative journalist Mickael Blomkvist and the tattooed and troubled yet resourceful computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate.

Sad that people don't know how to change the settings on a DVD. Mine started in Swedish as well with English subtitles. Go to the settings and you can change the language to English and turn off the subtitles. Voila!

Movie itself was very good and keeps your interest, a good whodunit. Could have done without a couple of scenes (you'll know them when you see them), but all in all a good flick.

Made a lot of the second movie (I watched it first, which was a mistake) make sense.

Stylish and sexy but ultimately relies on too many outrageous twists and a messy over-the-top resolution that's pure artifice.

A cultural phenomenon that went around the world. The movie version is all that is advertised... a mystery that is sunk deep in the past and requires amazing ingenuity to discover. Highly recommended.

This is the superior version of the films based on the bestselling books written by noted Author Steig Larsson, about Lisbeth Salander, a rough edged troubled computer hacker who helps a journalist Mikhael Bloomkvist investigate the disapperance of a young girl. Noomi Rapace best captures the character of Salander, and you're invested throughout the film. While, the Americanized version is still a good movie, this version is by far the better one.

This is the original version, not the one with Daniel Craig. I don't mind a movie with subtitles but Hubby usually can't be bothered to read. Really good movie with a good story line and characted development. A few scenes were hard to watch but definitely a good movie!

Compelling stuff, despite my lack of interest in Crime Thrillers. It's good to be aware of the dark underbelly of society that rarely presents itself.

Surprising twisting well-played film. My daughter read all these books, so I tried this DVD to see if it appealed to me. It's a good flick.

The remake was a very good film and this is somewhat better. The plot is very good based on the now classic genre of: the tangled tale of contemporary researchers trying to solve a deep dark mystery (usually a crime) and (usually) from the past (Possession, The Real Jack the Ripper, etc come to mind but also films like 3rd Man, or Pelican Brief). Well done as it is, the film relies on the Girl for its unique impact and Noomi Rapace delivers on it.

Suspenseful, ugly, story line(s) with an awe inspiring heroine.
