Picked up the film to have a nice evening watching it with my wife. It was much better than I realized. A good story, well told, nicely presented. Not a Hallmark movie (much better) and not a typical Hollywood production. I recommend the title.

Written and directed by Lee David Zlotoff in 1996, this American drama depicts the life of a woman who, released from prison, works in a small-town café known as "The Spitfire Grill".
Superb are the performances of Alison Elliott as the protagonist Percy, Ellen Burstyn as Hannah (the owner of the grill) and Marcia Gay Harden as Shelby.
Although it appears like a tragic story, the film would embrace you with its tender spirit while it gets you a genuine and heartwarming feeling at the end.

I gave it 4 stars for the great performances by the cast. The story held my attention, too.

I can't figure out what genre this belongs to. It is MUCH better than Hallmark Movie Channel offerings (which is what I was expecting), but there is a bit of love story and a bit of mystery. It isn't a comedy, but there are a few laugh out loud moments. It is not like anything I've watched in ages! The "back story" of the main character is all too common these days, as are the stories of the cafe owner and the new friend. The "strong women" theme is subtle, so I don't think I can even call this a feminist theme. This is on my HIGHLY RECOMMENDED list for the cinematography, writing, acting, and the joy of watching something unexpected.

Nice little movie, good acting, a bit long and a touch too sentimental.

"Did you know that this county has more Pegmatite rock formations than anywhere else in the state?"
