An amazing, intimate portrait of Maurice Sendak created just three years before he passed away. Sendak's insight on a child's perception of the world is going to stay with me. I especially loved Meryl Streep's reading of the book "The Sign on Rosie's Door", which she presented at Maurice's Birthday Tribute - absolutely masterful.

What a character Maurice Sendak was!
I enjoyed the witty, and heart-felt back and forth of the author and filmmaker during the documentary.
Viewing this film, and perhaps some of the extras, is not only a way to learn more about Maurice Sendak's work, but also gives one a sweet little glimpse into real artists showing each other deep respect and love for just being themselves: as creative, non-conformist, oddballs.

What a mensch! This is a little gem is directed by Spike Jonze. Don't miss the extras which include a short film by Spike as well as Meryl Streep and the late great James Gandolfini reading Sendak's books aloud to an audience.

I still haven't seen the film "Where the Wild Things Are," but I saw this film and it was great. Sendak is a peculiar human being and it was great to 'know him' through this documentary.
