I think it's difficult to put yourself out there, as is, like this film does to capture the personalities, intellectual creativity, and all-business approach of the people in the fashion industry and this film feels genuine to me. What I love most about this industry is its creativity and that this medium is malleable, but I can see how it can be a challenging work environment when you have strong, creative types all over the place retracing each others' steps repeatedly and it's not surprising that Tim Gunn has made tacit remarks that references the reinforcement of this culture and ambiance. What keeps it all together is their ultimate respect for each others' insights and natural talents. Fashion is an industry that has broad market and appeal, making whatever they throw their weight onto impactful. I'd like to think that Anna Wintour was referring to faux fur, not real fur. Because if it's real fur, then the whole industry should be required to watch a film like 'Speciesism' -- if they can stomach it to the very end (I couldn't, which is a statement within itself) -- by Mark Devries, at the time an aspiring attorney, much like Wintour's daughter; and I think they will come to more fully understand why groups like PETA splashes red paint on people for wearing fur; why organizations and teams like National Geographic and the Jouberts exist, are necessary, and do the incredible and enlightening work that they do; and the implicit and weighted responsibilities that come with this industry. I prefer faux fur on my parka over real fur any day.

A pretty thorough look at how Vogue’s biggest issue is put together. It’s interesting to see the contrast between the glamourous photo spreads we see in the pages, and all the not-so-glamourous squabbling it takes to get them. The film focuses on the two most powerful women at the magazine, Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington. Anna Wintour might be known as the “ice queen”, but this film shows her humanity alongside her ruthless work style. She’s great at her job, and has no time for nonsense in her position. As for Grace, it’s fascinating to watch her work, and I’d love to learn more about her. It’s also fun to spot the similarities to The Devil Wears Prada (or maybe that’s just me).

I recently listened to Grace Coddington's autobiography and thought I would rewatch this movie...I really enjoyed seeing how the fashion magazine development happens and all the characters involved.... but I am also a dedicated Vogue reader.

Great script, but not enough of the great fashion scenes, but the few there were--awesome. The brilliant elegance and intellectuality of fashion come through in the film, and A. Wintour's character is the convincing well-dressed business woman of Vogue. The very sad part is that Ms. Wintour took a pro-fur approach on one season that helped the fur industry, instead of sticking with the "real people wear fake fur" and helping the fake fur industry, and protecting wildlife.

This documentary about the making of the thick September issue of Vogue magazine was interesting. Anna Wintour, Vogue's editor, comes across as a reserved, enigmatic and in control (and beautifully dressed!) woman who knows what she wants. Other staff are also featured, especially the creative Grace who sets up photo shoots. A good insider's view of the fashion industry.

I watched this because of a friend's recommendation. Interesting to see the power that Anna Wintour has. I liked Grace so much better. I pretty much feel the same way about fashion as Wintour's daughter.

Interesting to see the inner workings of Vogue magazine. Unfortunately I felt uncomfortable watching Anna Wintour as she reminded me of one of my bosses - akkkk!

Try as it might, this documentary can't succeed in villainizing Anna Wintour as a brutal Ice Queen for her astutely autocratic approach to editing the American version of Vogue Magazine. It gives seasoned fashionistas the thrill of watching Wintour, her ace but occasionally behind-the-times Creative Director Grace Coddington, & (more briefly) such justly celebrated haute couturiers as Jean Paul Gaultier and Oscar de la Renta in action. For fashion novices, it also serves as a primer outlining Wintour's recent achievements in raising the profile & commercial strength of fashion on this side of the Pond. But whatever you do, kids, don't buy into the film's misleading pretence that New York is the centre & pulse of the fashion universe--because it simply isn't so.
