Jasper Fforde unfolds the tale of Eddie Russett, a boy living in a world without color. As he works for the Color Control Agency, the very entity that oppresses society's ability to see colors, Eddie falls in love with Jane, a girl from the unlit side of the village. However, when the two start to discuss rebelling against their oppressors, they undertake an adventure of a lifetime.

Brave New World meets Alice in Wonderland. It's dark and funny and dark and surreal and dark. Fforde insists there's an internal logic to the society, but just when I think I've figured it out, it gets even more absurd. One of my favorite books.

Like his other titles, this one can be described as surrealistic. It requires some significant suspension of disbelief. However, this is a much darker tale.
