Jasper Fforde unfolds the tale of Eddie Russett, a boy living in a world without color. As he works for the Color Control Agency, the very entity that oppresses society's ability to see colors, Eddie falls in love with Jane, a girl from the unlit side of the village. However, when the two start to discuss rebelling against their oppressors, they undertake an adventure of a lifetime.

Brave New World meets Alice in Wonderland. It's dark and funny and dark and surreal and dark. Fforde insists there's an internal logic to the society, but just when I think I've figured it out, it gets even more absurd. One of my favorite books.

This is my first read of Jasper Fforde. I enjoyed it enough to read other titles by the author.

OK basing a story on humans living in a world based on color does take a leap of faith---but isn't that what science fiction is all about? The author uses this rather unbelievable world to make some comments on human nature. The characters are likeable, the plot somewhat imaginative, though a little trite and dark---a worthwhile read just the same.

This book was as delightfully absurd as his other series. I enjoy immersing myself in his world.

But, I thought the ending was highly disappointing. So much that I probably wouldn't recommend the book to my friends.

Like his other titles, this one can be described as surrealistic. It requires some significant suspension of disbelief. However, this is a much darker tale.

A surreal, somewhat scary love story. Loved it in all its quirkiness.
