This seventh novel in author Diana Gabaldon's immensely popular Outlander saga takes listeners on a thrilling journey to 1777 America. Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife Claire that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But fighting for the eventual winner is no guarantee of safety. And worse still, the possibility of pointing a weapon at his own son--a young officer in the British army--haunts Jamie's every thought.

NOT SF/F. Bodice ripper. I am really tired of having stuff like this foisted off on me as SF/F. This should be listed only under "romance novels". Even for a bodice ripper I find this series particularly brainless and unbelievable. I'm sure the author is weeping all the way to the bank. See my comments on the originating novel "Outlander" for a more descriptive comment.

So sad to say that I think I am done with this series. Just couldn't get through this one.

Like most people that get attached to the books by this author I highly recommend them. I particularly think that Davina Porter's narrating of them is nearly perfect.

However, this is the first one that I have listened entirely on Playaway and it was much more difficult to understand - the sound quality not as good - as CDs. I don't think that I encountered this with the other Playaway books that I've listened too, but don't want to say for sure, because it may be the combination of poor sound quality PLUS the accent made it that much more difficult.

So I would stick with the CD version over Playaway.

with 3 copies in the system and 69 holds, I might get to hear this by sometime in 2014. Dear OPL, why not puchase a few more copies of this popular item ?

The latest in Diana Gabaldon's historical fantasy series about Jamie and Claire Fraser.

Her usual sprawling, multi-character saga that picks the reader up and carries her along. However, it felt as if she needed at least another hundred pages to tie up two plot threads that are left dangling, and to get Jamie from shipboard on his way to Charleston, to meeting Claire in Philadelphia. Maybe some other plot threads should have been dropped?
