In a world where some people are born with a unique and sometimes uncanny gift, Katsa was certainly no exception. At an early age, she demonstrated an uncomfortable gift for killing. This makes her the perfect tool for her uncle, King Randa. But Katsa detests being used and decides to stand against the injustice surrounding her.

I love the full-cast audio: it's easier to distinguish who is speaking which makes it easier to listen. This story focuses on Katsa - a teenage girl who has incredible fighting ability but has a hard time finding someone who is not afraid of her. Her uncle, one of seven kings in the land, uses her to do his dirty work and intimidate anyone who falls out of line. Amid the political unrest, Katsa meets a young man who may change how she sees herself.

The concept of gracelings is really interesting but if you are looking for a smidgen more fantasy, I would recommend the companion to this book - Fire. It's another great read with another strong, realistically written female. (Although Fire takes place before Graceling, I would recommend reading Graceling first.

It's hella entertaining and the romance is SO adorable and heart warming. The story did slow down halfway through and there were various matters across the book that I felt significantly favored Katsa or that I disagreed with (particularly the marriage issue) but it wasn't enough to lessen my enjoyment.

Yes the heroine is naive but it matches the writing of the novel perfectly. Marvelous read.

The narrator did a great job and I couldn't wait to get in my car so that I could listen to more of the story. After this I listened to Cashore's next book "Fire" which was even better.
