One of the most inaccurate war movies ever made. At least in "Sink the Bismarck" there really was an Admiral Lutyens, Bismark did in fact sink HMS Hood and was sunk in turn by KGV and Rodney. But in "Battle of the Bulge" the only historically accurate facts are that in 1944 German Panzers did break out of the Ardennes in an attempt to take Antwerp and the Americans were hampered by fog that grounded their aircraft. A shortage of fuel played no part in the German defeat, Colonel Kessler and every other character never existed in real life, and most of the action scenes are also pure fantasy. Bridge on the River Quai and Guns of Naverone were never intended to depict actual historical events but merely act as vehicles for the drama and adventure that unfolded. The Bulge is bulging with cinematic flatulence and mediocre acting.

From the very description of the film ("It is five days after D-Day....") to the story-line, the characters, the actual event, this movie sucks on all accounts. The ONLY reason I gave it two stars is for Henry Fonda, Teddy Savalas and Charles Bronson.

When this film came out in 1965, retired President/General Eisenhower came out of hiding and bashed it for it's historical inaccuracies. Seriously, check it out.

If you want to watch it strictly for the entertainment value, cool. For a movie based of a historical battle that follows history, even if in a loose manner? NOT THIS FILM!

Btw, it was also filmed entirely in Spain in a mountainous area. These people could not even find a nice flat, snowy forest somewhere?

Above average popcorn movie with seasoned actors, constant action and somewhat realistic sets. The story-line emphasizes the danger of overconfident leadership, a lesson that leaders continue to repeat (remember Mission Accomplished) with drastic consequences to humanity. It is also one of the few big budget movies in memory that depict Army Intelligence, considered an oxymoron by some, determining strategic action with successful results.

The prime example of Hollywood butchering history. The locations used are sometimes totally unlike the Ardennes, wild liberties are taken with events and timelines, and it's all still watchable because of the all star cast.

See "Battleground" for a much better historical treatment of "The Bulge".
