Released in 1958 - "Fiend Without A Face" is Sci-Fi/Horror that is so bad that it's actually good... (Yeah. Good for a laugh - That is)

This film's final showdown with man desperately battling against brain-sucking monsters is a priceless hoot-and-a-half!!

I loved the accent (british) of the director on the commentary track. la-dee-da. he runs down the business details of getting a motion picture into production, so blithely. I couldn't help but wonder how many workers were screwed, in the process. the writers of the stories weren't paid much and where is the socially redeeming value of such a project? for those who do like/love horror films, it is perhaps of interest to understand how a british one differs from an American horror film, and why. this is not considered in the commentary. nevertheless, there are many interesting behind the scenes details. enjoy!

I love that the esteemed Criterion Collection, which releases deluxe DVDs by some of the greatest directors (Kurosawa, Godard, Hitchcock), has also put out this forgotten, pulpy B-movie from the 50s. Like many sci-fi/horror movies of the period, it taps into atomic fears and the dangers of man playing god. While cheap, it's swift and efficient, with a slightly gonzo premise, some awesome stop motion creatures, and a finale that anticipates "Night of the Living Dead." A lot of fun for fans of slightly cheesy genre movies. Also check out Criterion's "Monsters and Madmen" set and "When Horror Came to Shochiku."

Meet the mental-vampires - Invisible monsters that bite into the back of your head and suck out your brains, along with your spinal cord.... Yum-Yum! Lip-smackin' good!.... With an extra dose of atomic energy these unseen creatures soon become visible as brains whose tails of spinal bone wrap around a victim's neck and squeeze the life right outta them.... So bad, it's good - Fiend Without A Face is classic 1950s, B-Movie Horror that delivers some real thrills and chills, especially during its gruesomely gory final showdown.... Check it out!
