Help SLPL’s Special Collections Department sleuth the locations of some of our historic archival photos! Special Collections is home to our Lemen Streets and Sewers Collection, a vast collection of images of St. Louis streets and neighborhoods from the early 1900s. These images give us a rare glimpse into St. Louis around 100 years ago. However, many of these images are in unidentified locations so we’re sharing the collection in Barr and Central Library’s Creative Experience labs to enlist the help of St. Louisans like you to figure out where these photos were taken.
Drop-in any time from 4pm-8pm, and use SLPL’s print and online resources, along with internet resources like Google Street View and your own street smarts to help us nail down these locations. We will be providing prints of the images, and assisting with access to the Lemen Streets Collection online and our online resources such as historic maps and newspapers. There are limited computers available in our labs which will be available on an as needed and first come first served basis so customers are encouraged to bring their own devices.
