The St. Louis Public Library and Cinema St. Louis present the Golden Anniversaries film series focusing on films released in 1969. Each film will be paired with a speaker to discuss the context in which the work was created and the cultural impact of the film. For our screening of The Wild Bunch on September 14th, author W.K. Stratton will be in attendance to discuss his recently published work on the making of the film, The Wild Bunch: Sam Peckinpah, a Revolution in Hollywood, and the Making of a Legendary Film.
This Sunday we will be screening Women in Love with a discussion following the film with Vincent Casaregola, professor of English and director of the Film Studies program at Saint Louis University
Set in an English mining community on the crest of modernity, this traces the shifting currents of desire that link the emancipated Brangwen sisters to a freethinking dreamer and a hard willed industrialist, as well as the men's own erotically charged friendship.
