Exhibit: Print to Pixels

All Day
Central Library

Mark your calendar as St. Louis Public Library celebrates the print evolution! Print is communication. Record. History. For much of modern time, print has been power.

Journey through the past to uncover the history of print as it evolved through the centuries during our new exhibit, Print to Pixels: How words changed the world, March 18-June 2 at St. Louis Public Library’s Central Library, 1301 Olive Street.

Explore this hands-on, interactive exhibit. See extremely fragile remnants from a hieroglyphic scroll dating back to 1100 BC; look at the opening leaf of an illuminated manuscript antiphonal on vellum, believed to have been made at the scriptorium in Padua, Italy, 14th century; touch vintage typewriters, and witness a 3D Printer in action.

The Firecracker Press, a fully-functioning letterpress company, will run their letterpress shop from inside the Great Hall as they serve as the first “Printing Press In-Residence.” Watch as they design and print posters, hold instructional demonstrations and explain the printing process.

Exhibit hours are Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

*Firecracker Press hours of operations may vary.
