Description

Syrhea Conaway (aka Syna So Pro) will present a scoring workshop that demonstrates creating a story through sound initiated by visuals or narrations. The focus of this workshop will be to interpret images, stories, and silent films and narrate and enhance the work through music and sound effects Using Creative Experience's hardware and software, participants will engage in interactive activities with each other during this workshop. The goal of Storytelling through Music is to listen and interpret emotions sonically and objectively and create a free-flowing score from a picture, narration for a short film clip.

The workshop is limited to 20 adults and teens, ages 16 and older. No experience is necessary, but all experience levels will benefit. Advanced registration is recommended; walk-ins are welcome as space allows.

Syrhea Conaway is a multi-instrumentalist and music instructor who lives and works in St. Louis. Writing, arranging, and performing music since age 10, Conaway has earned medals in District and State competitions, and she performed at Carnegie Hall with the National Youth Chorus at age 18. She has since performed for TEDx Gateway Arch, given musical speeches for the Arts and Education Council, been a panelist on "Women in Music", moderated a conversation as a part of USDAC and the Regional Arts Commission's CultureSHIFT 2016, and opened for many national artists such as, Asobi Seksu, Future Islands, and Paul Rucker. Conaway also collaborated with world-renown ensemble Alarm Will Sound for a performance at the Sheldon Concert Hall in 2015, and she participated as a member of New Music Circles' St. Louis Ensemble collaboration led by LA electronic musician John Weise in the fall of 2017. She recently produced live sound design for the Peabody Award Winning Podcast "To the Best of Our Knowledge" that aired on 220 NPR stations in June of 2017. She has presented workshops at local schools and the Center of Creative Arts (COCA), as well as with libraries and community centers.

Creative Experience is a digital makerspace at St. Louis Public Library.
