This session will focus on the critically acclaimed graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. In this autobiography, Satrapi uses the lens of her life story to give readers an insightful look into the cultural and historical background of Iran in the 1980s. Satrapi depicts what it was like to grow up in Iran in the years following the Islamic Revolution, from her childhood in that country, continuing through her adolescence in Europe and her return to Iran as a young adult. In this session we will dive deep into the novel to examine its context, to analyze its characters, and to explore its symbolism.
