This contest celebrates the musical contributions of African-Americans to culture and society. Contestants will sing an original or cover song with preliminary rounds at Schlafly, Julia Davis, Cabanne, and Divoll. The finals will be at Schlafly at 12 PM on Saturday, June 24, 2017. Songs should be in or inspired by the genres of Gospel, R&B, Soul, Rap, Hip-Hop, Blues or Jazz. Performances can be in two categories, individual or group. Contestants will be judged at each location and up to three entrants from each category will advance to the final round.
The grand prize winner will receive 10 hours of studio recording time at either Webster University or Gaslight Studio. There will be two studio recording prizes – one for individuals, and the other for groups such as choirs or bands. Choirs must be no more than 20 people. Individual runners up will receive medals.
